The small print
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to enjoy storygaffer, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we've done
- You can use the whole site with a keyboard, and there's a "skip to content" link at the top of every page.
- Text and background colours have strong contrast, and text can be enlarged to 200% without breaking the layout.
- The site works on phones, tablets and computers, in portrait or landscape.
- If you've asked your device to reduce motion, the scrolling ticker and animations stop.
- Every place on the globe is also listed as text: story locations in the panel beside it, and every ground on our grounds list.
- Each story page lists the facts and sources in text, plus every line that appears on screen in the video.
What we know isn't right yet
- Video captions. Our videos don't have closed captions yet. Each reel shows its key lines as large text on screen, and the story page lists them under "On screen", but the full narration isn't written down. We plan to add captions.
- The spinning globe is a visual feature that works best with a mouse or touchscreen. Everything it shows is also available as text, as listed above.
